My Favourite Things: Monday

Maybe this past weekend you had some time to put your feet up.  Maybe you popped a giant bowl of popcorn and popped in a movie.  That was my plan.  A co-worker had brought me an amazing roti for my Friday night dinner, Len was out with the boys celebrating the end of school and I was all set to pop in a movie.

I watched Miss Congeniality.  Sandra Bullock and roti are an odd combo, but it was fine since I couldn't find the movie I really wanted to watch.  The movie that, while I was thinking of future My Favourite Things ideas, popped to mind with great ease.

Turns out we loaned the movie to someone.  No clue who.  This happens too often.  We really need to get better at writing down who borrows what.

At any rate... my favourite movie:
Perhaps one of the best ever.  If you've never watched it, you really need to.

Young Walter gets dropped off to stay with his two great uncles by his floozy of a mother; rumour has it the uncles have money and lots of it.  Thing is, no one can get close enough to them to figure out where the money came from, and whether it's real.

And so unfold the tales of great adventure, danger and romance that the two uncles have been involved in.  It's poignant and funny in turns, with no shortage of surprises.

It's much better than Miss Congeniality.  Sorry, Miss Bullock.

So if you're reading this and you have my copy of this movie, please let me know!  I have a copy of Miss Congeniality you can borrow, if you'd like!

Your turn! What's your favourite movie?

  1. OH MY GOODNESS!
This is my husband's favorite movie too! That is so funny.

Mine is "My Fair Lady." I know every line. And every song. I adore Audrey Hepburn!

  2. I've never seen that movie, but keep meaning to watch it. I can say without a doubt that I didn't borrow it from you. ;o) If I had to pick one movie, I'd have to say Sleeping With the Enemy. Or Tombstone. Or A Walk to Remember. Oh wait, that's more than one, isn't it? :o)

  3. I have such a hard time picking only one favourite! I love war/history movies like Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, and The Patriot. I also like Pearl Harbour - but have to ignore the overt Americans-are-the-super-best-in-the-whole-wide-world references. I enjoy movies with excellent themes, good humour, history, and culture. An excellent movie has to have a story that can make me laugh out loud, get mad and want to throw things or make me actually cry.

If I had to pick JUST ONE.... I'd probably say Shawshank Redemption.

  4. I've never heard of your movie choice - maybe I'll shall check it out next time I'm at the video store.
I think my all time favourite would be 'It's a Wonderful Life'. But I also smile when I think of 'Enchanted' so cute, if you haven't seen it - you should.
