She's a good girl. Really, for her bug killing ways, she ought to be my favourite thing today. Maybe another time...
However, I have an agenda this morning, and I require your assistance. Regardless of how many people at work believe I am some sort of plant guru, I am not. I have killed at least three rounds of African violets, a pot of ivy and am just managing to keep alive a day lily at work, and that mostly because other people water it.
I'm not a complete failure, however. Today's category: favourite house plant.
This is my Wandering Jew which, despite my occasional neglect, continues to flourish.
These are actually the photos of when I first got the plant a year ago. It's done very well, and I appear to have put it in the right spot near the front window, where it gets a good deal of natural light. It did not enjoy being moved last Christmas, so I'm not sure I'll move it this Christmas...
I am, however, still on the hunt for other plants that fit into the following categories, however:
- does well with infrequent watering
- can survive being nibbled on by a cat
- will not kill said cat
- can survive with low amounts of indirect sunlight
- is pretty
I love the look that flourishing house plants add to a room. Surely I can do this... surely there are plants for people like me. Surely I'm not limited to silk/fake plants?
And so today's MFTM serves a dual purpose... you can show of your plant loving ways, and help me find new foliage that I can successfully grow in my own home! Thanks in advance!

Oh dear. I know *nothing* about house plants! I'm currently scrambling to see if I can get someone from my family to be my guest blogger. :D I'll be writing about my fake plants if I'm not successful! I'll keep you posted... ;o)
ReplyDeleteI managed to kill my Wandering Jew. It made me sad because they are soooo pretty. However, spider plants and philodendrons are great houseplants for those with less-than-green thumbs. My mother-in-law tongue (not sure of the real name) also doesn't take much work. I'm not sure about the safety for your cat, but I had a cat a long time ago, and while she died, I don't think it's because of eating the plants.
ReplyDeleteMy dad TOTALLY came to my rescue! He is beyond awesome. Here's my post: http://disestherzone.blogspot.com/2010/09/my-favourite-things-monday_27.html

Hey Thelma, I'm making up some new rules for "my favourite things Monday" now...how much trouble am I in now? ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to play My Favourite Things" Monday a week behind schedule, so I've posted today about autumn.
Now you'll have to wait a whole week for my house plant wisdom. (Whatever you do, don't hold your breath waiting, because the advise will be minimal to non-existent! In fact, I'll be looking for suggestions just like you!)
