With Canada Day on a Thursday, I was given Friday off for the stat holiday. Len has been on reading week all week, so we had the day together to get ready for his birthday party. The weather has been amazing this week; bright and sunny and warm but without the stifling humidity, so it was the perfect day for an outside party.
Not to mention the Netherlands won their quarter-finals game; it was a good day!
There was pizza, broccoli salad, a cold veggie pizza and a veggie tray.
And potato salad. Kudos to Len's mom for the birthday shout-out in red pepper.
Cool cat.
Friends & family.
And cupcakes! Oohh... the cupcakes...
I very nearly forgot to include the baking powder and soda in these delightful little morsels, which would have left us with cupcake bullets. They turned out marvellous and, as it turns out, you can have a lot of fun with buttercream icing and some Ziplock bags. I was quite pleased!
I wasn't the best hostess given my delightful summer cold, but everyone still seemed to enjoy themselves, I think. I did accidentally spill one of the cupcakes on my guest's lap, but I think he forgave me. I hope so, at least. That apparently reminded everyone of last year's party where I spilled something on my brother-in-law. Next year I think the guests might all arrive with giant bibs.
At any rate, it was a lovely evening with good food and wonderful friends and family.
And cupcakes.
Did I mention the cupcakes?

Yes, your are forgiven.
