As a blogger, I also enjoy other blogs. I've linked to my friends' blogs before, occasionally removing those who appear to have stopped blogging and likely just read instead. No judgment here... it can be a lot of work to keep a blog up to date. (As she gracefully extends herself the same mercy. Ahem...)
There are also, however, blogs that I pop into fairly frequently but don't necessarily add as a link on my own blog. I don't link them for a number of reasons. The main reason: half the world seems to link to them, and given the 500+ comments these blogs typically get, not linking to them allows me a small space of superiority where I pretend to disdain them when truly I love them.
It's a mess. However, I'm also hear letting you in on the secret, so clearly I'm all about cleaning up the mess.
So let's do this, shall we? Allow me to out myself.
1. I love Joy. Joy the Baker, that is. She's funny, she bakes, and she has somehow found a way for the Fat Girl in me to fantasize about amazing baking without having to partake. Actually, that's not entirely true. I tried one of her recipes. It was awesome. I ate the whole batch in a single sitting. Now? I just read. And drool a bit. Or a lot. It works for me. It feeds my fascination for sugar (specifically cupcakes) without having to eat a single one.
Oh yeah. She takes super fun photos as well.
2. Speaking of awesome photos... The Pioneer Woman may take the cake. Her blog is a delightful mix of stunning photography and side-splitting humour about life as a rancher's wife. Apparently she also has a cookbook or something, but I spend less time on the cooking side of her website than I do on her blog. She's that funny.
Of course, there was the one time I was perusing a recipe for Grilled Chicken & Pineapple Quesadillas that looked mighty tasty but I looked up for a moment at The Len (aka: He Who Despises All Things Pineapple) and I realized how unlikely it was that I would make these. Alas...
3. And then... perhaps all in a league of its own, there is the Cake Wrecks website. There are no words. Well, there are. But they're very hard to get out when you can't breathe for laughing. Do not peruse this website if you are in a place where you need to be calm, cool and collected. Like the library. Or at work. (Not that any of us browse the internet while we're at work. Of course not!)
So there you have it. I'm a joiner.
To save face, I shall say that I peruse these websites to gain a better understanding of how to better promote myself as a writer with my blog.
Which is true, but the real reason they're in my secret Favourites folder?
Comment envy, people. It's all about comment envy.
I love the Pioneer woman's web site too! I've made one or two of her things, but wow - they have a lot of high fat flavour! I like watching cooking shows too - Diners, Drive-In's and Dive's - very fun.
ReplyDeleteThelma, I really enjoy reading your blog - you have such a talent, thank you for sharing!
-Audrey L.
I love Joy the Baker & Pioneer Woman, too! And I agree- they get a ridiculous # of comments. Share the love, people!
ReplyDeleteI did a blog about Cake Wrecks last year.. I go there for a good laugh once in awhile! I especially love her captions!
ReplyDeleteDo you still follow Bring the Rain? Angie's book is out... thinking of buying it, but I feel like I know the whole story already since following her blog for over 2 years!
I shall now attempt to make 496 comments .... uh, maybe not. I'm not that verbose. I've read Cake Wrecks, but not the other two. Going to check them out!
ReplyDeleteYes I feel very unloved that I'm not linked. Oh wait, you weren't talking about me...
ReplyDeleteI LOVE cake wrecks! It cracks me up!!!!!
I love you to!
