I can't say that I'm a smoothie purist by any means. I'll toss whatever I have in the fridge or freezer, and they never really turn out the same. My favourite new addition is chia seeds, which is one of nature's power foods and is a great source of protein and other awesome things. Google and learn.
I didn't add chia seeds to this since I was using the smoothie as part of my dinner. After two solid days of meetings and no decent food, I was grateful not only for the exercise tonight but also craving some wholesome goodness.
Today's smoothie: frozen mango, fresh strawberries and banana and a healthy dollop of skim milk.
Our run this evening was a wonderful surprise. The weather is very promising this week with temperatures in the 20s and lots of sun. After the aforementioned days of meetings and Len's relatively high pain for the past week, we both looked at each other at the end of the day and I knew it would take very little for us to talk ourselves out of it. We were both tired and facing a long night of homework.
The decision was this: we would go for a walk and at least get moving outside in the beautiful spring weather.
The walk turned into an amazing run. Len hadn't been out with me yet since I had started training again in January. Turns out my speed has increased enough to make him have to work a bit to keep up with me. Yay me! I think he's taking that as a challenge however, so I have my work cut out for me!
In between runs we walked and talked. I expressed my frustration at the mental and emotional wall I keep hitting in my weight loss and Len squirreled his way to the root issue. God gave him the perfect words of encouragement that I needed to hear! It was awesome. I love how we can be a hand and a foot to each other; he knows me better than anyone else, and his honesty is so refreshing. I'm so blessed by him.
Mushiness aside... what's better than a smoothie after a blessing-filled run? Very few things, folks... very few things.
yay for smoothies and a great run with DH!
ReplyDeleteI use yogurt instead of milk. Can you get lactose-free yogurt?
Good for the both of you, getting past the, "I've so much to do...." and being together outside! The smoothie looks great and delicious. You'll have to show me how to make a nice one while you're here.

Hooray! I'm loving running outside again now that the weather's warmer, too. I was getting really tired of the 'mill.
ReplyDeleteI will sometimes use yogurt too, Jenn. Yogurt is actually lactose-intolerant friendly (for most people) since it has active cultures that help in digestion. Little tidbit of info for you! :)
ReplyDeleteMom, we can have some smoothies when I'm there! Sounds good!
